What is GEAR UP Class of 2012?
for Undergraduate Programs GEAR UP Class of 2012 is a six year grant project awarded to the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative by the U. S. Department of Education on behalf of nearly 1150 students in seven Kentucky school districts. School districts represented in the GEAR UP Class of 2012 project include, Barren County, Breckinridge County, Cloverport Independent, Cumberland County, Edmonson County, Glasgow Independent, and Todd County. This project is operated through the USDOE’s Office of Postsecondary Education and its mission is to increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. In keeping with that mission our six-year project focuses on all students in the class of 2012, particularly those with little or no family history of postsecondary education. These students will participate in various activities of the project including, college campus visits, one-on-one counseling and instruction, mentoring, parent involvement, financial aid workshops, Individual Learning Plans (ILP) development, community activities, ACT preparation, career awareness and many more. The GEAR UP Class of 2012 grant project consists of six components. Post Secondary Familiarization, Mathematics Achievement utilizing the Carnegie Math program, Advanced Placement and Vertical Teams, Family Support, Local Partner Support, and School Support.
