pre-requisite courses.
Ed Leadership Requirements
a. The following letters of reference:
1. Immediate supervisor
2. College instructor
3. Professional colleague
4. One of applicant’s choosing
NOTE: Letters of reference must address all areas as a minimum that are indicated in the instructions contained in the packet.
b. A current resume that includes all related work experience, professional activities, and professional goals.
c. Evidence of leadership experiences (including school, district, and
community)
d. Documentation of three years teaching experience and evidence of positive impact on student learning. Although state test scores are acceptable evidence, this may include other things. Examples might include standardized test results, continuous progress testing results, documentation supporting significant growth by students on their IEP’s, or other tangible evidence of positive impact on student learning.
Other Program Criteria
The selection process for admission will include a variety of assessments to identify highly qualified candidates who have the prerequisite skills, knowledge, and dispositions to be highly effective school instructional leaders. The process will include the following:
a. Professional Portfolio. This would include a vita, answers to questions such as perceived leadership style, school change, school improvement, and school management. Previous leadership experience in a school setting such as service on a school council or leading a school improvement committee should be emphasized. Attendance records and other documentation that addresses commitment and work ethic should be included. If possible, a letter from the superintendent should also be included and should not be a pro forma letter of support but an imprimatur of the candidate’s capacity and viability for school leadership.
b. Problem-Solving Exercise. Candidates will complete an on-demand exercise that will require the candidates to process information, provide a solution, and organize their responses in an appropriate and timely manner.
c. Computer Competency. The candidate will have to demonstrate essential technology competency such as word processing, Internet access and ability to search, Power Point, and spreadsheet applications. Part of this assessment will be done in conjunction with the Problem-Solving Exercise.
d. Oral and Written Communication. Oral communication will be assessed in an exercise that will require the candidate to read and process information and then prepare and present a short presentation in a scenario such as a press conference. Written communication will be assessed in conjunction with the on-demand Problem-Solving Exercise and the computer competency assessment.
e. Interview: Candidates will have a structured interview with department
Faculty. This will be another opportunity to assess oral communication, dispositions, and professional demeanor.
