Thank you for your interest in the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative’s Transition to Teaching grant program and Western Kentucky University’s Alternate Route to Teacher Certification Program.
Unfortunately, our Transition to Teaching grant project was not funded by the US Department of Education for the 2007 selection year. However, WKU’s Alternate Route to Teacher Certification/Master of Arts in Education degree program will continue in 2007. This means grant funds will not be available to support new teachers beginning in the summer and fall of 2007 but school districts may employ teachers through the alternative certification route if the new teachers wish to pay for their own educational expenses. We hope to apply for additional funding to reopen our grant in the spring of 2009 for a cohort of teachers beginning in fall 2009. If you would like to be placed on our mailing list we will be happy to notify you by April 2009 if funding has been awarded to continue the grant program in 2009. Please send a mailing address to the email address below where you would like the notice mailed and we will be happy to place you on our contact list. If you do not hear from us by April 2009 that means we were not granted additional funding to continue the Transition to Teaching grant project.
If you are interested in Western Kentucky’s Alternate Route Program, contact Michelle Kahler at 270-745-6249 or email her at michelle.kayler@wku.edu for more details.
Again, thank you for inquiring about the transition to Teaching grant project and your interest in a career in education. If further information is needed please do not hesitate to call me at 270-745-3594 or email me at kathyj.hughes@grrec.ky.gov.
