TRANSITION TO TEACHING

 

The Transition to Teaching Grant Program is a United States Department of Education grant awarded to the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative on behalf of 19 Kentucky School Districts.  The purpose of this grant program is to recruit, place, train, and support mid-career professionals and recent college graduates as they enter teaching careers.

 

This project is designed to assist eligible school districts fill teacher vacancies in critical areas such as Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Middle Grades Science, Foreign Language, Special Education, or other subject areas designated as a critical-shortage by a district. Teachers selected for this program and employed by a participating school district will enroll in Western Kentucky University’s Alternate Route to Teacher Certification /Master of Arts in Education Degree Program.  The grant funds $5,000.00 for tuition fees and provides support for teacher candidates meeting admission requirements and employed by a participating school district.

 

School districts meeting federal guidelines to employ teachers in the Transition to Teaching Grant Program include:  Adair County, Breckinridge County, Butler County, Caverna Independent, Clinton County, Cloverport Independent, Cumberland County, Edmonson County, Glasgow Independent, Grayson County, Green County, Hart County, LaRue County, Metcalfe County, Monroe County, Ohio County, Providence Independent, Russellville Independent, and Todd County.
