Cognitive and Instructional Coaching
July 17, 2017 to July 19, 2017
8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

GRREC is pleased to offer a six-day professional learning institute designed to help educators develop the knowledge and skills to conduct Cognitive and Instructional Coaching with K-12 teachers. Four days of the institute will be laying the foundation for Cognitive CoachingSM - developing skills to conduct planning and reflecting conversations.  Instructional Coaching will focus on designing instruction that supports student engagement in the Standards for Mathematical Practice.

Data gathering tools for assessing shifts in classroom practices, as well as tools for planning and reflecting will be a critical piece of this coaching model.  Day six will consist of learning how to use the Calibrating Conversation Map to self-assess progress toward meeting professional growth goals.

As a result of engaging in this institute, participants will:

  • Learn how to structure professional planning & reflective coaching conversations
  • Demonstrate mediation skills and coaching capabilities, including paraphrasing and questioning
  • Develop awareness of shifts in classroom practice that allow students to demonstrate the Standards for Mathematical Practice
  • Increase capacity to support teachers in meeting professional growth goals connected to Kentucky’s Framework for Teaching
