Igniting Mathematical Thinking in the Intermediate Classroom
June 21, 2017
8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Getting students engaged in mathematics can be challenging.  Getting students to think mathematically can be even more challenging!  Join Mathematics Instructional Specialists, Sheri Brittenham and Kim Estes, along with Educational Technology Consultant, Terri Stice as they model strategies for igniting the mathematical thinking in your students. This informative series of workshops is designed to provide participants with tools to help students think through and make sense of the math, develop mathematical literacy, or numeracy, and help students learn to generate questions to monitor and repair understanding, predict and infer, reason with numbers, and become numerate thinkers. The effective use of technology will allow the learners opportunities to make their thinking visible.

During this institute, participants will:

  • Gain foundational knowledge of strategies to raise student comprehension in math
  • Experience student-centered tasks with embedded strategies to promote mathematical thinking
  • Learn to utilize technology to deepen learning experiences
  • Acquire practical ways to incorporate thinking strategies into their classrooms
  • Leave with sample lessons and answers to the question, “How can I do this in my math class…tomorrow?”
