Session A – Planning Science Units with the NGSS: Conversion to the Next Generation Science Standards has been a struggle for many science teachers. Understanding the three-dimensional approach to science instruction is key to effectively making this transition. Join Melissa Harris as she demystifies how to read and implement the NGSS standards, and walks participants through the step-by-step process of planning a unit centered around science phenomena. Time will be provided for teachers to develop their own lessons.
Session B – Preparing for the Solar Eclipse: The Solar Eclipse is coming! On August 21, 2017, a large swath of South Central Kentucky will be directly in the path of totality – truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Even if your school is not in line for the total eclipse, a partial eclipse will still be visible. Make sure you’re prepared to take advantage of the learning opportunities connected to this amazing natural phenomena. Join Rico Tyler and Jennifer Sheffield for ideas for school-based events and a wealth of dynamic lesson plans appropriate for all grade levels.
