Time: 8:30 - 3:30 CDT

Location: GRREC Office and Training Facility

Presenters: ,

Cost: GRECC members: $150.00, Non-GRECC members: $300.00

Description:

Kentucky’s new Science Assessment System requires effective implementation of the NGSS and knowledge of the full scope of standards to create 3-dimensional instruction that builds students’ conceptual understanding of the nature of science. In this two-day workshop, teachers will work in grade-level bands to explore the NGSS, share what has worked in their classrooms thus far, and develop an intentional approach to phenomena-driven lesson planning.

Participants will expand up their existing knowledge by exploring:

  • Best practices using the 5E model for inquiry-based learning
  • How to build expectations for small group science discussions
  • Coaching students to write about science, including Claim/Evidence/Reasoning
  • Building targeted assessments for units
  • Planning effective phenomena-driven lessons
  • Embedding authentic opportunities for student data collection and analysis
